Many women experience cramps during their menstruation and to relieve themselves of the pain, they turn to over-the-counter medication and pain-killers.Some even ask their mothers or grandmothers for remedies that worked for them and they suggest sipping tea or applying heat. The pain we experience affects our ability to concentrate and can cause uncontrollable mood swings. Here are some natural remedies that can help reduce menstrual cramps.

  1. Ginger

It has been proven to be useful in treating morning sickness in pregnant women. It not only relieves you of period cramps but also helps stimulate menstruation with less pain. You can grate ginger and boil it in a cup of water for five minutes. You can also add honey and lemon juice and drink this three to four times a day.

  1. Parsley

It is loaded with nutrients that can treat various health problems. It also contains a compound called apiol that has been revealed to relieve menstrual cramps. You can boil parsley leaves in water and drink the tea to minimize menstrual cramps.

  1. Papaya

Adding papayas to your diet will help relieve cramps. They are rich in vitamins and nutrients like carotene, iron, vitamins A and C that help soothe uterine walls and ease muscle contractions. You can consume unripe papaya whole.

Massaging gently over your back and abdomen is an effective way of treating cramps. It reduces and suppresses inflammation in the uterus. You can use any blend of essential oils like lavender, tea-tree or chamomile oil.

Instead of using pain-killers or just skipping everyday activities during your menstruation, you can turn to yoga to soothe aches and pains. There are many yoga poses and breathing exercises that help relieve cramps.

There are the pressure points for relieving cramps and period discomfort. Working on one or more than one of these points can relieve you quicker whenever you have a free hand.
